Templemere is an exceptional example of a number of housing estates completed by Span Development Limited, designed by acclaimed architect Eric Lyons.

Built in 1963 as part of the British Modern Movement in architecture it was awarded a coveted Civic Trust award the following year for ‘making an outstanding contribution to the local scene’. Templemere achieved Conservation Area Status in 2017 because of its special architectural and historic interest.

  • Templemere is equidistant between Weybridge and Walton-on-Thames with the small village of Oatlands a five minute walk away.

  • The estate is clustered into blocks of 4-6 terraced houses. There are two formats of properties on the estate, three bedroom terraces (T2Y) and four bedroom terraces (L1).

  • Landscaping was expertly envisioned and implemented by Preben Jacobsen who at the time with Lyons was moving landscaping out of a rigid Victorian phase into something more fluid and open with vistas to specific trees all scaled proportionately.

Cedar of Lebanons, Scotts Pines and Californian Redwoods are an impressive scale which the layout of properties embraces with clear vistas and viewpoints.

  • At the back of the estate is a four acre woodland and Templemere’s share of The Broadwater Lake. The Woodland drops sharply down to a flat area of grass on the water’s edge. Monthly community days are spent managing the woodland for residents and wildlife.

  • Templemere Residents Society Limited (TRSL) is run by volunteer shareholders (or co-opts) who look after specific areas from woods and gardens to things like covenants, and events. They meet monthly and represent and reflect the interests of the community who come together at annual AGMs.

Each shareholder of the estate in part is responsible for its upkeep and maintenance through getting involved or the maintenance fee.
