All replacement doors and associated parts must have the same appearance as the originals.

Colour options
Front doors colour options
Doors offer the opportunity to pick a colour from the following selection of British Standard colours originally selected by Eric Lyons.
Rhino BS 10A11
Savannah BS 10C35
Hollybush BS 14C39
Saddle BS 06C39
Beaver BS 08B25Please do not use white or any other colour.
Please do not use fake wood effects or fabricated textures.
Please do not use more than one colour on a door. -
L1 door casement
These doors should be solid with no windows, letterboxes or ‘period’ feature details.
Sidelights were originally fibreglass bonded glass, which is not made today and should now be replaced with Stippolyte.
Please note how thick the base of the frame is on the sidelights (not achievable with UPVC).
Also please note the fanlight window above the door is clear and only the width of the door.
-
T2Y door casement
This door arrangement has two glazed windows of the same size. Sidelights, much like the L1’s (4-beds), were fibreglass originally and also have thicker bases on the casing and should now be replaced with Stippolyte.
The fanlight above the door should be clear glass and extend the full width of the porch.
-
Wood
Wooden front doors can still be made today and should follow the same dimensions and proportions as the originals.
T2Y (3-bed) doors can be made to incorporate double glazing
-
uPVC
uPVC is a common choice for replacing front doors.
Please make sure they are flat with as little bevelling as possible and do not have any ornamental detailing or faux wood texture.
Please ensure your supplier uses a sympathetic style letterbox positioned off-centre and an appropriate handle, ideally silver metal in a matt finish.
-
Door Profile
T2Y (3-bed) properties have a specific profile of door and window arrangement. Please see detailed drawings in this guide for reference.
Please do not split the top light into three panes of glass

L1: Door handle
The best match today to the original Wehag designs by Max Burchartz are the interpretations from FSB designed by Johannes Potente.
TRSL recommend the FSB 1027 Satin Knob set (Stainless or Aluminium). If you cannot find these then the material should be brushed silver metal of around 50mm in diameter.
-
T2Y: Door handle
The closest match to the originals are the FSB 1027 Satin Lever set (Stainless or Aluminium).
-
T2Y: uPCV limitations
When using uPVC companies please check to see if they can use the FSB brand, (often this isn’t the case) or match as close as you can to a brushed or satin silver matt finish with as simple as possible form and design.
Please do not use brass, white or black as it is not in keeping.
-
Door numbers
Originally, these were black with a raised profile and placed where you can see the black numbers under door numbers position note that follows (this is common across other Span developments).
Pink circled numbers show alternative positions.
If you want to upgrade, TRSL suggest a brushed or satin silver finish. The original font is Akzidenz Grotesk BE Condensed, and they were sized to 65mm high.
Official font number design files are available from TRSL committee.
-
L1: Door number positions
Today, there are a few common positions: centred on the door near the top (black reference), centred on the fanlight or on the light fitting (magenta references).
-
T2Y: Door number positions
Originally, numbers were positioned above the letterbox aligned to the edge closest to the centre. Today, there are a few alternative positions commonly used (magenta references).
-
Letterbox
Unfortunately, the original Wehag letterboxes are no longer available. The FSB letter plate with wall casing (model 38 3808) is the nearest match.
Please make sure any new letterbox is in a matt silver or anodised aluminium finish.
Original letter boxes had doorbells integrated specifically for Templemere and some still survive and work today.
-
L1: Letterbox position
On L1 (4-bed) properties the letterbox was originally centred in the lower horizontal panel to the side of the front door casement.
With modern uPVC fittings this space is not usually wide enough, and the letterbox is usually positioned above or below this within the coloured panel.
Please do not put the letterbox in the door or use a post box.
-
T2Y: Letterbox position
On T2Y (3-bed) properties the letterboxes are offset to the left or right depending on which way your door opens.
Please instruct uPVC companies to replicate this important architectural detail.
-
Doorbell: Options
There are lots of doorbells available today. From the FSB 38 3863 to more budget friendly versions and those with built-in CCTV.
Please stick to a brushed or anodised silver metal or white plastic. Please do not use brass or bulky decorative designs.
-
Doorbell: Position
Please locate the doorbell on the white door frame or near the letterbox on L1s (4-bed).
Door knockers are not an original feature and should not be used.
-
Porch light
Wall-mounted lights were not an original Span feature, but TRSL understands the desire to have them today.
The Bega Light Brick 33563 light with opal glass is the most sympathetic (also used by other Span estates).
If you wish to install a motion sensor light, please select one that most resembles the Bega light brick (i.e. rectangular with diffused light and black metalwork).
-
L1: Porch light positions
Suggested Bega Light Brick placements.

T2Y: Porch light positions

Garages
Garage Doors, fascia panels and roofs should have the same appearance as the originals.
-
Garage doors
Replacement up and over doors should be made of metal (smooth) with a British Standard 10A11 Rhino gloss paint finish.
Original sized horizontal strip doors are no longer available and TRSL recommend the Cardale Europa II as a replacement.
-
Garage Fascia
The original design used wood tongue and groove cladding painted with British Standard 10A11 Rhino gloss paint finish.
These can be replaced on a like for like basis in wood or in uPVC to match the original design with a British Standard 10A11 Rhino gloss finish.
Numbers are provided and installed by the TRSL committee in the required font and position.
